To do this the actual shapes of the glyphs have to be changed. With Type 3.2 full version, an action script can be run over all glyphs to make the outlines thicker (stroke). An example script would simply be: stroke 10 (you might need the value -10, depending on the direction of the contours).
Then it is a simple matter of adjusting a few font-description and font-name parameters to make it into a bold font.
With Type light (free version) there is no automatic way to do this.
